Herkki Erich Merila is an interdisciplinary artist in the Estonian art scene — an author whose nearly 40-year journey spans photography, painting, fashion culture, visual design, and teaching. His creative thinking has always moved between boundaries—where technical precision meets poetic sensitivity, and personal memory intertwines with cultural archives.
The new series of collages brings together all previous layers: references to photography, the De Studio era, painting, and visual experiments. It is a collection of tests that does not look back nostalgically but synthesizes the past into the present—turning the artist’s own archive into a new language and a new space.
