Ellen Vene

Overview

Ellen Vene is a prominent figure in contemporary Estonian art, merging spatial installations, sound environments, and narrative exploration. With roots in sculpture and cultural history, her work probes how historical remnants shape modern consciousness. She actively bridges roles as an artist, organizer, curator, and DJ, engaging deeply with both the art world and community life.

Education & Formation

  • BA in Sculpture & Installation and MA in Contemporary Art from the Estonian Academy of Arts.
  • Advanced studies at Die Angewandte in Vienna and Central Saint Martins in London, expanding her spatial and narrative vocabulary.
  • SMFA ’21 graduate exhibited “Loops of life in an ocean of air”, an ambient installation exploring perceptual environments.

 

Ellen’s installations often envelop entire galleries, creating “poetical narratives” that intertwine lived and collective memories with sensory experience.  She employs strategies rooted in cultural and art history to reveal how historical systems continue to shape present-day perceptions.
